Default Apple help - model based on age??
According to Apple: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1651

.. my MacBook might take 2GB or 4GB max, depending on when it was manufactured. How do I know? It has 2GB (2x1GB, 667MHZ DIMM's) in there now..

There's nothing in System Profiler that gives it away (nor on the case that I can find)..

Edit - It can be a pain to track the models. Differences in year can be small or huge.

OK, so I didn't know, you can simply go to Apple's site and enter your serial number on the specs page: http://support.apple.com/specs/#macbook

Doesn't give you the breakdown of where it was made, etc., but does tell you the exact model and supported memory configuration.

People need to follow the rules. If they need to be told not to double or triple post, then so be it.
