Anyone know of a place to buy and download Snow Leopard?

You can't. They don't have options avaliable to my knowledge to purchase and download Snow Leopard.

I guess you could become a Developer, and then download it that way, but that's much more expensive than to just buy it and have it shipped to you in two days.

Apple defines your proof of ownership as the disk itself. It's analogous to microsoft's CD keys. If you download the disk image, you don't have a disk, and you have no ownership of a "CD key."

I think that's the reason you can't do downloads of OSX.

Well, there's no license key anywhere (that I've ever seen or entered) so if you had a download, what's to stop you from sharing it.

Of course, I could probably just copy the DVD - but I've never tried, have no reason to - it may be protected somehow?

i would think the key is embedded in the installation, since you buy a family pack and they give u one disc..

There is no protection on the disk whatsoever. There are no keys or anything like that

I saw piles of them at a best buy yesterday, but your best buy has to have an apple store in it. Might be out of the way for you if you are looking to purchase and burn the Image.

Nothing whatsoever. It's been done millions of times probably.

I have a backup copy of a Leopard disk. The backup copy reads just like the original thing: I can browse the disk in the OS and install the extras and everything. But for some reason, it will not boot, meaning I cannot install from that backup DVD.

There is no key whatsoever. As far as I know, when you buy the family pack, you're complying with the "honor code" and telling apple, "Yes, I have more than one mac at home, and I will give you the $20 extra so that I can install it on them as well instead of buying the single pack and putting it on all of my computers."
