well 1st off i would like to say if u dont have anything to add then dont flame and go away.
__________________now that thats over with im wondering what the benefits are of owning a mac? the usual ones: 1. are they dont get viruses, nether does windows/linux if used properly. 2. they are better for design, afaik anything u could want is out to use on windows. 3. they just work, iv never had a problem with a pc i couldent sort in a few mins. they are the arguments i have heard to own a mac but seem a bit rubish to me. the negatives are: you cant overclock, fixed hardware, hard to upgrade/imposible for the majour components, very expencive compared to a self built rig. im not trying to make a point or be smart im wondering what advantages they have over a windows/liunx pc they have, so again if you dont know then dont troll. and thanks for any CONSTRUCTIVE input.

OSX - some people simply like it better, and I personally really enjoy it as an operating system.
Access to certain applications - as an audio guy, Logic Studio is a phenomenal tool to have available to me, and is a Mac exclusive. The Apple Store - not mattering so much to folks like you or I, but you can take your gear to a place for support where you schedule an appointment, get the knowledge you need from someone who in theory knows what they're talking about, and the only thing you pay for it is a name tax. Also comes in handy for warranty support - I had an iPod Touch die on me, I went to the store, and walked out in 15 minutes with a replacement.

that first reason has to go considering there has been a couple viruses put out for mac now, i would consider them more vulnerable as well considering they have a lot of security flaws and no anti virus as of yet.
so i guess that can be a reason against no anti-virus yet ah edit: safari its a nice browser sure its on windows now but it was a reason before.

a few more advantages:
__________________they can jailbreak iphones better the support is generally good and of corse you generally dont need drivers for anything as the hardware is fixed my opinion of macs is that of coarse they are way to expensive but on the other hand the support is good and if you have no idea what your doing with computers you cant mess it up as bad. I have seen some disasters when it comes to computers and generally its more difficult for "bad computer users" to install junk on it. IMO if someone needs a basic computer like for just web/word and stuff and have enough money they should get a comp with either linux or mac as there more difficult to screw up.

Great for video editing, final cut express and photo editing. Also good for everything except games, pretty much. Easy stable to use operating system.

People like some of the applications and/or the machine itself better. That's about it.

The best way to look at operating systems is to try to put the characteristics of them into a person, and then based on how that person looks and acts, pick that one as your favorite. I mean, who would you rather spend your time with, the skinny actor from a few movies like Accepted or some uptight average looking office guy? The choice is clear. Oh wait, that has already been done.
__________________seriously though, macs are pretty handy for non-gamers who are into videos and music media. It is surely practical for that.

2. The stigma that they are better for design/editing I believe is a bit outdated but I think Macs have better bundled software. 3. Anything "just works" if you are good with computers. This is marketing B.S. Once you weigh and balance the pros and cons I believe PC's are a better choice. You can get better hardware for a lower price, and use the price difference to purchase fantastic Windows software for whatever it is you want to do.
