How did it crash? I need more information if I'm going to try and help. Thanks.
I don't understand what you mean by "crash OS X install". What version of OS X were you trying to install?

How did it crash? You didn't answer my question.
Were you installing 10.5.7, or did it suddenly crash while being used and now it will not boot up? Do you get an error message when booting it..? More information is the only way I can help. Saying it crashed and need the data doesn't help much. If you have important data, you can boot with your OS X disk and hold C on your Mac and boot into the disk, and from there you can repair the disk if there's something wrong with it, or you can use something like Disk Warrior to repair the disk if it is no longer being able to be booted into.

Let me know if it works, or else boot your Mac by holding Command+V and let me know what the error message is, or when the machine stops booting. It usually shows a panic of some sort with a command line stating what happened.

ok I've booted to the disk, but I can't seem to find the repair you're talking about. Also Disk Utility isn't showing my disk as being partitioned (which it is).
EDIT: Couldn't repair or restore.

Try a Linux Live distro, or perhaps the Ultimate Boot CD? Not sure if the latter can access HFS, however..
