Default what do you say about this Mac ?

hi...

in my previous thead I asked about an AV for a new Mac we got at the Newspaper I work for, and I mentioned that I will tell you about it later, and now the "later" comes

so, see the specs and tell me what do you say about it !

OS: Leopard 10.5.8

CPU: Core 2 Duo 2.93 GHz @ 1333 FSB, with 6MB or shared L2 Cache.

RAM: 4 GHz @ 1066 MHz FSB

GPU: Nvidia 1xx with 256 GDDR3 ( XX= I forgot what release that card is )

HDD: 620 GB.

with a wireless network.

and I hope we concentrate on the CPU and RAM side, so what do you say about it ??

and can I ask about how differfence in performace it would be if those specs were for a PC with Windows OS, or there is no way to compare Macs and PCs?

thanx

^ That's ok/good for a mac.

But if you want to compare:

My sig rig will destroy that system and it is probably cheaper. It can also run OSX.

And I could probably build that computer for about $400.

Don't get me wrong I have a macbook pro and iMac, they are good computers if you need their software. Mainly for video editing.

1. Not legally you can't.
2. I doubt that. It'll run you more than $400.

To the OP: The specs you listed are just fine. It's going to run pretty fast, and you will like it. If you're concerned about how it will run in Windows, and if that would be faster, you can always use Boot Camp to install Windows and take a look for yourself.

My 2.0GHz dual-core MacBook, which I paid $600 (refurb and on sale) with an upgraded hard drive (went with an old Fujitsu 320GB 7200RPM drive I had sitting around) and 4GB RAM (came with 2), running 10.6 (now 10.6.1), is faster than my sig rig. I use it *almost* exclusively now.

The 10.6 move was the key. Made a huge difference in performance.

So, that's a great Mac, and with an OS upgrade, it will be even greater..

1-If you have the original disc you can ""Legally"" Do it

2-

$94 - Intel Pentium Dual-Core E6500 Wolfdale 2.93GHz
$119 - GIGABYTE GA-EP45
$74 - Western Digital Caviar Black WD6401AALS 640GB
$77 - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
$50 - Corsair 450w
$24 - DVD Sata Drive with Lightscribe
$39 - BFG 8600gt 256mb
$39 - Rosewill Wind Ryder RZLS142A Case

Total $516 so yeah not $400 but that was a quick guess, probably still alot cheaper than the mac and it has the potential to destroy it in performance.

OP: The mac you got is very good, I am just comparing with pc's, Mac's and pc's are not the same, mainly, due to their software.

What? How is a dual core faster than an i7? Are you comparing Windows to OSX or something? Because I have a Mac book pro and my Sig rig is at least double the speed of the computer, not on paper but real life testing.

Yay spec wise you can build a computer that is equal to or greater than the specs of any Macbook. Everyone knows that.

But you're not going to come remotely close to a Macs build quality for that cost.

Actually, unless something has changed recently, Apple's EULA states that it is only legal to Run their OS on Apple hardware. So no, it's still not legal .

Your talking about mac's build quality right? Well if mac's are build so good why did my Mac Book Pro just burn out?

Here is the thread http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/5821...-dead-gpu.html a custom pc with good parts will last a lot longer than a mac.

Ok, then. Cnet did a video on running osx on a pc, and from what I remember I thought he said that you could do it legally as long as you bought the original disc.
