Hey OCN, I have an older apple laptop that was just formatted and I am looking at the best OSX version to put on it, it has a 800Mhz processor I believe with 512MB of Ram, it also has a 10GB HDD.
Will Leopard or Snow Leopard work well on it or would it be like putting Vista on a 800Mhz processor?

well, It looks like you are using either using a Powerbook g4 early 2002, or an ibook 2002-2003 models, if I am correct.
__________________#1 you wont be able to run snow leopard on your laptop because it does not have a 64 bit intel processor. #2 The requirements for snow leopard requires 1gb ram and 5gb disk space, and with 10 gb, you dont have much room to do much. Leopard is the same also, your processor is too slow for the requirements. You might be able to do it (im not completely sure) but it will be extremely slow, and yes just like it would be putting vista on the machine. The latest Mac OS you can put on your machine is Tiger(Mac OSX 10.4). If you can find a disc out there, the OS will run fine on your laptop. It will run smoothly. Though you might want to upgrade that hard drive, because Tiger takes up about 3gb, and personally, I dont think that is enough space to use on a daily basis. That is my input. Hope you get everything figured out, Mast3rRoot

Also, can you explain to me the main differences between Tiger and Leopard? Honestly I don't know much about it as it was given to me in its present condition so I may get it working with a slightly bigger HDD and then let my Niece use it as she is currently without a laptop for school. Thanks again guys, rep+

Only OS X Server installations need a product key. Leopard was a huge upgrade compared to Tiger. Leopard came around when the switch to Intel CPUs happened. It's far more advanced than Tiger, and has far better compatibility with new software and hardware. Tiger will do fine on the old Powerbook, but it will be nowhere near as great as if it were a Macbook capable of running Leopard.
