Question G5 Mac: CPU Temps

A friend of mine has dual-CPU G5 Mac, running OS X Tiger. His CPU temps range between 56C idle to 76C under load.

Is this in the ball park, or should he be worried?

That's higher than I would feel comfortable with. Has he cleaned out the heatsink from dust? That can help a lot.

Those temps are fine. The optimal temps for a G5 are about 55' on idle, the fans start to ramp up at around 70'.

Thats about normal. The PowerPC chips in the G5's always ran very hot. Though just cracking open the case and blasting it out with compressed air is never a bad idea, just be safe.

Just don't contemplate removing the CPU's to apply TIM, it is not at all worth the risk and annoyance.

Oh yeah, I forgot the they were PowerPC chips. And why would blowing out the inside not be a good idea?
