Why the heck is a 2tb HDD a $250 addon from a 1tb?
and DDR3 at only 1066 in dual channel? no thanks.

However, the screen on the iMac is pretty noteworthy.

You're correct. I have no clue where the OP is getting his info...
i7 860, 1156 chipset I'd assume.

haha!
going from 2x2gb to 4x2gb is a $600 upgrade!!!!!

so lets see, I want 2tb, 8GB ram w/ future upgradability, and the i7 instead of the i5.

That's an $1150 addition cost.

Friggin ridiculous!

No it's an i7, the i5 is 2.66GHz. Why do you say it's not an i7?

It's a great computer, but it is pricey.

OP, the i7 860 is a different processor than the i7 920. I wouldn't really call it faster on this site, as it's an overclocking site, however it is at stock speeds. Since you're looking at OEM builds, I'd assume you'd prefer not to build the computer yourself? With the exception of maybe the screen, you could build a pretty comparable PC for a decent amount of cash less.

What do you plan to do with this build?

I knew this would start happening when Intel introduced the new naming scheme. The 860 is the newest edition to the i7 line. However, it is the 1156 platform, unlike the 1366 i7 920 we're all accustomed too. Like the 750, it has an onboard PCIe controller.

Ah I don't intend to build myself a computer unless I'm intending to sell them to other people, I stick with Mac personally. I have a Mac Pro and will probably keep it for a while (sig rig).
I wasn't sure if the iMac was a i7 860 or a i7 920 or what, technically it's faster at stock speeds, you can't safely OC Macs I don't think.
Quote:
Actually the iMac is only $2200 with the i7 and 4GB of RAM. Apple vastly overcharges on RAM so just replace it yourself and still have a really awesome system with a 27" screen for ~$2350. Not a bad deal imo.
Exactly (+169 for AppleCare)

Just curious, what's that mean:P the 860 is better or the 920 is better?
