Sure, its reasonably priced, but in the end your stuck with a system you cannot upgrade or replace any parts on. Its also no ideal for gaming, so in the end building yourself a PC would be a better choice, unless all you do is surf the web..then your dumb, because spending $2700 to surf the web is bad.

It's good for gaming you get a 2560x1440 res with IPS display and it's LED backlit (looks nice), it's just not good for hardcore gaming because the GPU probably can't handle it. You can upgrade the RAM (up to 16GB).
And as I have said before Macs hold their value quite well (at least I think they do, I've never sold one), when it's time to upgrade you just sell one and then buy the next generation.

Once the i7's start shipping I'll check out the benchmarks of the graphics card in certain games on Windows, I hope to find Crysis in one of the games tested.

4850 is still pretty weak. Should have included a 5770 at the least. Especially with the lowered costs of integrated everything into 1 piece. Last time I checked, AppleCare only covers the first 3 years and that is extra. You can only get telephone support the 1st 90 days even though it says there is a 1 year warranty. You are relegated to talking to the Apple "geniuses" at the Apple Store.

Furthermore, there is always the problem of integrated everything into 1 piece. When something breaks and you are out of warranty, you throw away the whole computer including the monitor.

But what type of IPS is the display? The upper end Apple Cinema and NEC displays use h-IPS. I imagine Apple using the cheaper e-IPS on this iMac. It would not make sense for Apple to undercut its own Cinema display.

I wonder what costs Apple chose to keep things at this price point. I am skeptical about the durability of this all-in-one considering how Apple like things to run on the hot side of temps.

I can't say for sure, but it's possible it's a mobile graphics card and not the desktop version, and also Apple may have underclocked it.

I don't know about the e-IPS, regarding the undercutting you'd think not but.. I believe the ACD's are going to be refreshed soon, and I don't think anyone would buy an iMac instead of a 30" screen for running multiple monitors or for running the iMac as a monitor if that's even possible, but they might buy it instead of a Mac Pro + 30".

I'm not sure, hopefully tear downs will reveal every little spec of detail about the core i7 iMac, however I believe the large size of the iMac allows for better heat ventilation, once again I await the tear downs .
