Default Mac exposure

Well the time has come to learn the Mac OS as I am a digital arts student. I think I would be happier with a Mac laptop than a desktop. I have 5 different desktop PC's but I really love SnowLeopard.

In the laptop area anything to be had for not a penny over $1000.00 tax included? Apps will be word processing only,I will be doing my CS4 work on a PC as I just can't afford a desktop Mac but always wanted a laptop so it might as well be a Mac so I get OS experience for the Macs at school.

I will never throw away the enjoyment that working with PC hardware brings me, I will just have both and never open up the laptop. Thanks in advance.

Some great Leopard and SnowLeopard tutorials on Lynda.com.

Cheapest Macbook comes at U$999 on the Apple store. I recommend you get a Mac mini. Just spec out one for your needs here.

I agree with him. Unless like me you work for FedEx and you get EPP at Apple/HP/Dell/Alienware/IBM and some others. Try looking for a referb.

So this mini-Mac would be the cheapest way to learn the Mac-OS (besides borrowing or spending lots of time at the computer commons)? Unless watching tutorials does it for me.

The problem is sooner or later I will be called upon to used the mac in a work environment so I can't just dismiss learning it by saying "too expensive" +rep for you guys.

Personally I learned a little bit on Macs on my old Powerbook G4 and there's really not too much to it. I recommend getting the Mac Mini because it can be used for video editing and such if you need to do it at home. My Powerbook G4 (RIP) used to lag all over the place with it's little 800MHz processor when resizing images in Photoshop.

Getting a Mac isn't an absolute must, though, I bet you'll be just fine learning only at work, although having one would make you shine.

Nolonger, +rep for giving encouragement, sometimes thats all it takes for a person to take charge of their situation.

I do think it will be Mac-mini as I really like the SnowLeopard OS and want to give file management a real comparison test against Win 7.

Can I use my PC monitors ?(Acer 22" flat screen it was about $170.00)

Sure, I used to have my Powerbook G4 hooked to my 17" LCD as an extended screen, pretty easy to set up.

So it will be 599.00 (not sure of tax if I buy from Apple Store) for basic Mac-mini,with OS and perhaps some apps (really only must have Word for Mac's additional).

I must check if this includes keyboard and mouse (mac mouse technique is great)

The only thing I hate about Mac mouses is the non existent right click. And If you want I guess I could lend out my discount to you. I can get a Macbook for $939 and free shipping. Just PM me and we can work something out.
