Yes, it has finally happened. I originally had the goal set to crack the top 50,000 by the end of October 2009, but here we are nearing the end of September!

Good job bro....nice...
I'm confused though, do you mean 500K? Is that project on boinc - does it automatically split into those sub-projects? You're not using your ATI are you?? or just using the quad? and is that your boinc name? did you check if your 4670 will work for the ATI release soon? I think it might since it's a 4000 series card... Or is that a completely different client program??

lol... oh man... you started a crazy thought. So I checked out their website (World Community Grid - pretty good!).... project looks good, very well kept. Good forums too.
Like I found this idea...dude made a USB bootable image of linux on a 512 stick - so he just plugs it in - boots it onto any computer he wouldn't want to contaminate in any fashion (or his wife's - like i'm thinking).. Say you take her laptop and just plug it in and let it steal her CPU cycles ![]() Then she unplugs the thing in the morning when she doesn't recognize crap on the screen...she reboots... repeat again next night... ![]() ![]() Now I have to see what exact old intel chip is in there and see if it's even x64...(i don't think it is...)...

Gill,
That's 500,000 points for the overall World Community Grid project. On the grid, you can choose what projects (i guess you can call them subprojects) you want your computer to do. I'm just using my Quad core right now. The ATI cilent this is currently supported by the BOINC program itself. Using BOINC, you attach the program to what projects you want your computer to do (ie. World Community Grid, Seti@Home, Rosetta@home, etc) and then the BOINC client will connect to that projects' server and download the files necessary to compute, obtain results and send those back to the project server. So in short, BOINC does now support ATI but the projects themselves still have to code theirs to be able to run off of the GPUs (not sure if this makes sense)

Yeah, it makes sense - I was in the Linux client which apparently doesn't have GPU support yet. So I'm switching back to Vista tonight and will try the Milkyway@home GPU app....see how that works...
I did check last night, and your 4670 should work too for that and possibly SETI at this point - until full support...which you also noted will have to wait for the projects to also ensure compatibility with their apps. Thanks...

Yeah my card would work but its a 4670. It's not going to be contributing too much you know. Im planning on getting one of them DX11 cards by year end. I would of bought a 4870 by now, but I'm just holding out for newer tech
![]() It's great to see that more DC projects are jumping onto the GPGPU bandwagon.

Totally agree with you bro. I do bet your 4670 wouldn't do bad considering what you paid though if you think of it that way. Probably pulls less electricity too..
Eyefinity ehh?? I hear you there too. I'm thinking of tossing this 4870 into the HTPC instead of onboard or even buying an NVidia card and also going with a 5000 series. My goal is to produce maximum heat from the card to exhale out the case into the room to use for heating this winter....so my big red jet engine stock fan will be my heater... 6 monitors for the cards coming say, post thanksgiving on.....I'll toast and wait to that. Which in that series are you thinking, and will you use that to crunch too?

I haven't decided what card in the series I will be choosing, it will come down to price in the end.
