I love my iPhone G3. And it's really not that expensive when compared to your budget. If you're considering a Blackberry, don't get the curve. It's an alright phone, but I've had one, as well as an 8800, 8820, and Pearl. The curve placed last, imho. Check out the new Blackberry storm and Blackberry bold.

EDIT: Also owned the AT&T Tilt. Great work phone. Best keyboard on any handheld. Only probably being the price and size. It's pretty bulky.

Oh. Well, that changes things. TelCel does offer a 3G without a contract.... but depending on the price it may not be worth it to you. Might wanna skip the 3G.

Curve would be a viable option then.

EDIT: $1000? Pass on the 3G. That's pretty ridiculous. A good phone, but not worth that.

Yes, the curve is a very good "workhorse" phone. Has good multimedia options (including a nice camera camera). It's also practically indestructible. I didn't go with wifi for my curve. I did wifi on my 8820, but probably wouldn't again. It really depends on how many wifi networks you come in contact with (obviously).
