Question iPod Touch worth it?

Hey,

Wanting to get a portable device in which I can browse the internet while sitting with my family in the living room. iPod touches seem great, my dad has the first generation one and I'm wanting to get the latest one.

Are there any other products which may suit my needs with a same size (roughly) screen?
Are there any advantages of the latest iPod touch over the first generation besides more buttons and speakers?

Thanks for ANY help

Yeah, I say they're worth it. The app store is pretty awesome and makes good for killing time. Maybe go with a Cowon S9, people seem to like them. Flash capabilities and FLAC playback are pretty sweet.

The speaker is pretty much the only difference between the two gens.

I love my 2nd Gen Touch, but I got it a month before the new iPhone came out and the iPhone finally released the 32GB for $100 less then I paid for my 32GB Touch If you want a new phone and internet everywhere you can use your cell, go with the $199(w/ contract) iPhone but just for house, go for the iTouch.

I believe the 8GB goes for around $150, 16GB for $200, and 32GB for $280. Depending on where you look of course.

It depends on which version of the iTouch you're getting. If you've got the money for the 32gb touch, I would suggest The Archos 7inch.

The extra space really is worth it to me, 32gb just isn't enough for all my music and having to remove things to make room for other stuff is just irritating to me. I don't know how much music/video you have but if it's even close to 30gb I'd suggest something with more memory like the Archos.

The second generation Touch has a faster processor, almost as fast as the 3GS'.

Jailbreak that and you're good

I just got a Cowon S9 instead of an ipod and I must say that it is an amazing alternative. Very good audio quality and supports FLAC. It uses an OLED screen which is amazing compared to LCDs. It was $285 shipped on newegg for a 32GB.
