So, I'm at work right now, customer comes in with a question about his iPhone. He opens safari, and sure enough, he has one of the windows-oriented fake Anti-virus virus infections running on his phone, apperantly thinking the safari app is running on a windows PC. We couldn't get it to kill off either, and would not let Safari be closed. No results searching for it on Google, yahoo, or here, we even called Apple and got the typical "can't happen unless jailbroken" line, when this is NOT that virus.

It's highly improbably that there's a virus for a cell phone. It's probably some app he installed.

It probably just the phone. Tell your friend to wise up and buy a PalmOS-based device.
![]() Seriously though, if a hacker was going to make a virus on a phone, and he really wanted to start trouble....I have no doubts it would be on an Iphone. Since its like the most popular phone in the world.

It was no app, trust me. And it wasn't a friend, was a customer. I don't think it was WRITTEN for the iPhone, it looked like one of the more common viruses for Windows. But it WAS affecting the phone's useage. As I said, could not find any similar reports anywhere else.

Wow. I've never heard of this before on the iPhone.
__________________It does seem like either a restore is needed, or else a jailbreak in order to close running applications, or else at least to see what is running. Can he not just backup and do a restore via iTunes? That seems like the most common route to take, as well as him be weary about what was installed prior to it happening. There could very well be a virus floating around even via the App Store that got past Apple. Who knows.. Also, stop with the idiotic comments. If you have nothing to contribute to the thread then don't post. Fanboy comments and insults towards the Genius Bar as well as telling the OP to tell the user to buy a better phone is not helping at all.

Didn't phase me, isn't mine. Check my post history, I HATE Apple. And I told him right off when seeing that it couldn't be simply closed that he should wipe the iPhone and restore it, but he was scared to do the backup, and rightly so, due to his distinct lack of anti-viral software on his laptop. He had a Norton subscription, he just never installed it. We told him install it, update it, backup your stuff, wipe the thing and start fresh.
