Is it possible to get one (unlocked, or locked, I could get either, although I care less about a contract) and just use it with my current plan (no browsing)?

I care less about internet, I just want to use it as my phone, but want an Ipod and phone in one. and it would be easier to text.

I got one here in Oz from the apple store, it was unlocked and as long as I had a 3G sim card I can use it on any network as a regular phone. At this point I dont have data on my plan and it works a treat.

My question was was it possible to use a previous plan on it and just not use internet since I don't need it.

and wow, that cost is ridiculous. I don't know why I would pay that much for a phone. Here in Canada even unlocked doesn't exceed 1000.

Yup the IPhone has A/b/i think G wifi so any wifi hotspots you can go online with out paying fee's
