sorry about the double post.
i forgot to mention that you will have to change the apn to that it matches the one that t-mobile. you should be able to go to settings>General>network>cellular network and change it there.

Wow, this a lot to understand. Apparently, I can't buy an iPhone in any store without activating it with AT&T? I don't want to get one on eBay, what am I supposed to do?

craigslist is your friend, thats where i got my iphone. Then i unlocked and jailbroke it. It is much easier than it sounds.

yea Look for it on CraigsList
the 3g used run about 250-350 depending on the condition
the 3gs New will cost you about 640-660 for the 16GB used it will be around 580-600
the 3gs 32GB will be New 740-760, used should be 680-700

and remember make a lower offer to get a good deal
look at the item and make sure you are comfortable with it.

if you had at&t then you could go into the apple store and interrupt a "Genius" person and maybe end up with a new refurbished phone.

I'm supposed to be getting a 2G tomorrow and it's already unlocked. I've already used blackra1n on my iPod touch and it worked great, so I'll do that again.

iphone 2g can be unlocked no matter what updates come out.
if you get a 3g be sure to be carefull with itunes updates
