Default iPhone... Blemishes?

I currently use a silicone Switcheasy Colors case for my iPhone and have been using it since the day I got it. Every once in a while I remove the case to clean off dust from the phone's backing.

The other day I noticed these "blemishes" on the back of my iPhone. I pride myself in taking extremely good care of it, and there isn't a scratch anywhere. These blemishes aren't scratches; they look like dust but they don't wipe off. Theres no elevation nor recession from the iPhone's surface, so they seem as if they're kinda "melded" into the back.

Long story short, I have NO IDEA what they are. What are they??

They look like smudges but just won't come out. Maybe they're from the silicone case? I've tried a bunch of things: Compressed air, iClean computer display cleaner, Windex, microfiber cloth, to no luck.

I'm thinking about using GooGone on the back to see if that will remove them. I hope so, because I'm kinda OCD about keeping my phone perfect. :|

Here are the pics. It's exentuated in the second, with flash. They can only be seen when you glare it into the light. When wet they disappear.

Any ideas/advice?

Thanks in advance!

That sucks

if the iphone is still under the Apple 1 year warranty you could go into apple and maybe get it replaced. if it is still under the warranty i would not use any "chemicals" to try to get rid of them. as you might damage it and put it out of warranty. you can check you warranty here

Just a heads up, Apple usually wont honor a warranty claim due to physical damage to the case, especially if it doesn't hinder the operation of the hardware itself.

Goo gone isnt overly "chemical" really, its made from citric acid, which doesn't play nice with the oleophobic coating (if you have a 3GS)

If you have a regular 3G, go for it.

3GS, try to use a non abraisive solvent like rubbing alcohol and a dust free cloth and just kkeep rubbing till it comes off.

there are ways to get around that.
usually on the first time you have an issue they will give you the benefit of the doubt. say you go in and say you get poor signal and you replaced your SIM from your carrier they will try to reproduce the problem and will not be able to since it dose not exist but will end up giving you a new one even though they are suppose to be able to reproduce the problem at the bar. this has been done many times....

$15 + Shipping. Very nice case that I'd highly recommend. Unless it's whats causing these... things.

Is the oleophobic coating on the back of the case as well? I thought that was just over the screen.

I've tried rubbing alcohol as well, to no avail.

Thanks for all the help so far guys! Very much appreciated.

I read somewhere that they put it on all surfaces, and other places that its only on the screen. I haven't seen a definitive answer to that question unfortunately...

EDIT: I just did some more reading... I think the polymer is only able to be applied to the glass screen, so you are probably fine to use goo gone on it.

That would have been my guess. I remember reading a while back that cheapo cases were causing stains to some iPhones (because people were blaming Apple for white iPhones turning colors because of heat, when it was the cheap case causing it). But these cases were like a buck or something uber cheap. Not sure about yours.

It's meant to be pretty high quality. It has the highest rating of an iPhone case on iLounge. But perhaps that's it...

Think it would be okay to use this "OOPS!" stuff on it? It's a latex/paint remover...
