Default 3 monitors setup?

I have a buddy of mine asking for some help with setting up 3 monitors. I really have no idea as to whats involved and there isn't a lot of relevant information on the net (or atleast it can't be found easily) on this subject.

So, is it possible? If so, what would you need to buy/do inorder to get it setup? I have no idea why he wants 3 monitors, but he does so..

Any help is greatly appreciated.

TIA.

2 video cards will do it...the rest is up to drivers and whatnot.

what graphics card does he have?

My other question, why do you need 3? I mean 1 nice one is fine, 2 is even better, but I think 3 is to much space, you will get lost in there.

well it depends on his graphics card setup. He'd almost definitely need to be running 2 cards (sli or crossfire) because there are no gfx cards that have 3 outputs (atleast not 3 monitor outputs, maybe 2 dvi and a s-video).I know that my motherboard (which supports an agp card and a pcie card can run 4 monitors but you need to cards installed.

thanks for the responses.

I have no idea why he wants 3 and I personally think it's too much. but hey, it's his choice I guess right?

he seems pretty newb when it comes to doing stuff like this and all he could tell me was that his comp has an AMD Athlon XP processor. He said it's a brand new system so I'm sure the mobo in their can support an AGP and SLI card.

Where do you guys get drivers to run 3 monitors? Will the regular nVidia drivers do the trick?

You can't even run TWO monitors on SLI.

There's a difference between two video cards and SLI...it's tottaly separate...they dont' even have to be the same.

He can add a PCI card as well and that makes 4 outputs (AKA 4 monitors)
