I gotta say, very nice How To! I'm going to have to get in touch with you after I get some money saved up. I think I'm going to attempt this for our living room (hopefully). I'd rather do it in the bedroom as thats mainly where we watch TV....but I don't think my fiance would like that huge projector being in the middle of the bed . Also....is there anyway to get the parts OTHER than ebay?

local liquidators, thrift stores, salvation army.. etc..

we use ebay because if buying new online your looking at $400+ just for the projector..

Sometimes schools will have sales where they sell off their old projectors. You can use any 15" LCD, new or used. Ebay is just a logical choice. These days, you won't get ripped off on ebay really, just buy from a seller that has a business on ebay and you're in good hands.

Also, the places where darkninja just listed are great.

Is it possible to buy from ebay with a paypal account that's not linked to a checking account or debit card? I'm asking because I recently tried to buy from newegg and xoxide with paypal (they both accept paypal), but it wouldn't go through because I'm only using a savings account. If that's possible, I might just have to have one of you guys help me pick out a good Buy It Now on ebay or something for these parts. And I'll be looking for a somewhat smaller LCD panel since I'll be perfectly happy with RCA input (composite I do believe is the proper name). It'll be replacing my TV in the living room. So it'll need to hook up my VCR (old school, yes), and the computer will hook into the VCR like it currently is via RCA. God I can't wait till I have enough money to blow on this project. I'll have to call the local school districts later this week to see if they may have some old projectors they can sell .

reason you couldnt order from them is because your paypal address is not confirmed.

directron.com allows payments from unconfirmed address'

when buying on ebay read sellers listing make sure there is no ship to paypal confirmed address only. or if its not stated ask seller before buying.

I'm not sure about the ebay thing. Newegg and Xoxide have to send your package to a CONFIRMED address, which means it has a bank account linked. I'd be happy to help, when you get ready to build it, you might be better off making a new thread, so this one stays on-topic with the actual guide. Either way, let me know when you get around to it, I'll help in whatever way I can.

Very nice how to. Considering how expensive projectors are, this is really worth a try. Thanks for the info

What size lcd do you think would be too small? Would a 7" portable dvd player work you? THose seem to be easily found.

It would work, but because DVDs max out at 480p, I doubt you are going to find a portable player with a screen bigger than 768x480.
