I thought about building one of these, but I bought an 800x600 2000 Lumens LCD Projector off ebay for $100 shipped instead. It said unknown lamp life on the ebay add, but I figured if it died I would use the parts to make a DIY projector. Turns out I have had it for two or three years now and it's still going strong. So ebay is also a good option for a cheap projector.
