Go with the Samsung if you can afford it. However for the money Acer panels are absolutely great. In my opinion they are the best budget panel you can buy. For the money, the Acer hands down. However if you can afford the Samsung, go for it, much prettier looking.

Samsung makes a MUCH better lcd panel. reason: They also make very good tvs and use the same technology from them on the monitors. My 4year old samsung lcd is still working without a problem. The samsung has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, the acer a 700:1. The samsung has 5:4(4:3) Enable with Aspect Ratio Control. It also has a better stand.

Edit: Acer does make a good panel but if you are going to have this monitor for a long time why not spend a little more to get the nicer one?

I have seen both an Acer and Samsung side by side, and I see absolutely no difference. Same thing goes for a Hanns-G and a Dell. It looks exactly the same.

I have seen many acers and samsungs side by side in various stores, the Acer looks better to my eyes, also all acer panels are about the same whereas samsungs can have widely varying panels with the same model number, it's a panel lottery. Go for the Acer and save some $.

There is no real difference between 2ms gtg and 5ms btb, I would rather have 2ms btb though, because if you notice on that samsung monitor it says 2ms gtg(5ms). GTG means grey to grey and BTB means black to black, it is just another way to play with the customers on comparing monitors.

The samsung has better specs. You should choose the monitor by the specs first, then brand.
