Tv's as monitors:
CRT: --------------------- 576x720p 4:3 (Aspect ratio, not many widescreen CRT's) Hi-Def LCD/Plasma: -- 1366x768p 16:9 Full/True HD: ----------- 1920x1080p 16:9 Unless you have a Full HD TV, there's no point using a TV as a monitor as it cant put out the necessary definition. Yeh, its 1336

I'm just saying, that standard TV'S are limited, as the media they're designed to play max's out at 1920x1080 (Full HD movies), where as some monitors will allow for more. Now, if you are using an old CRT, they are very limited, and not look good at all, because of the old technology and their limited resolutions. (They also only support 50Hz refresh rates, where as TV's and monitors can support 100Hz.) Check this monitor out before you question me again!!! It supports 3840X2400. Now, unless i'm mistaken, I believe that is considerably higher than 1920x1080!!! ![]() Many others will still support 2560X1600 as well, and they're a hell of a lot cheaper than that monster up there! !FFS!, know your facts before you question me again...

You said unless you have a fullhd tv then theres no point using it as a monitor. My tv support a resolution of 1336x768 which is not full hd.

Whatever... I just don't see how blowing up the pixels that big can give you
*amazing quality*, it can be *very good*, but it will never look as good as the one(s) I mentioned OK.

640x480 is the resolution. But it's 480i... @ 60Hz, so it's going to look horrible and huge. TVs make horrible, horrible monitors.
That's the NTSC TVs, for PAL you'll have basically what james said. It depends on what region of the world you are in. NTSC is for North America. Saying Full HD is a bit misleading, as at this moment in time, HD simply means above 480 horizontal lines.

I know, but by "Full HD" I mean "True HD" (As in 1920x1080, did i not make that clear enough? I said "Hi-Def" was 1336x768, and then said about "Full HD".)
Maybe it didn't make sense the way I worded it...? Quote:
So, over 480p is "Hi-Def", but from my point of view, 1336x768 is the only real "Hi-Def" (anything less and there's no point getting it!) before "Full HD". P.S. I'm saving up for a Full HD TV, maybe a nice Sony Bravia LCD, I definitely want LCD.

Just saying that HD is anything over 480 lines. It's not fair to call true HD when 720p is HD.
Instead of true/real HD, I'd just use the number of lines. 720pHD, 1080pHD, etc.
