Ok, so i'm in the market for a new LCD TV. (That's a TV, not a Monitor)
I want to get a new Sony Bravia LCD (Or something of similar standard), with the specs: Size: 36" (91.44 cm) Aspect: 16:9 Res: 1920x1080p (Aka "True" or "Full" HD, |2,073,600| pixels) Contrast: High. (Unspecific yes, but it all depends on what brand.) Refresh Rate: 100Hz (Aka "Motion Flow") So, how well do you think this will look hooked up to my PC? I will have an ATI HD 4870 and a new PSU when I hook it up. (With the ATI card linked to TV via a DVI->HDMI adapter included. And YES I'll buy a good-quality HDMI cable.) Also, I know that monitors (Being smaller with higher resolutions, i.e 22" 2560x1600 or This Beast) can look better, but I actually want a TV to serve as a TV, and doing this would just be an added bonus! ![]() Tnx to all who reply!

That contrast ratio you request for is a little dodgy in my opinion as I do not believe there is an industry standard as such when measuring that.
Also, those great features only start to get introduced when entering the 40" and above range of televisions, especially the blessings of 1080p and MotionFlow. The X series and XBR series that Sony offers are the ones to look at but they are rather expensive. For example these TVs meet your requirements somewhat, however contrast ratio isn't necessarily 30,000:1, I believe it is 18,000:1 but like I said it is only a comparison to be used within a brand only. For example, Samsung offer TV's with 500,000:1 contrast ratio but it is mostly to be measured in a different way : KDL40X3100 AND KDL40XBR It seems the XBR costs more for the sleek finish of the speaker/bezel; same story here in the UK but its up to you if you want that; but both are similar and absolutely beautiful with a sort of Vista-esque design. :P A HD 4870 will be amazing with that setup; a HD 4870X2 however will probably provide an ultimate experience. I've tried my PC on my X series TV on VGA only and it looks amazing at 1920x1080. On a final note, the Sony televisions are amazing televisions but there are other brands out there also offer extreme quality, I would suggest you check them out too.

I won't be getting this TV for a couple of months (Might seem early to start posting now, but I'm getting as much info as possible.) so i'll see what happens in the future. (Cheaper TV's, Cheaper GFX, etc.) Also, My final note: Can you try to restrict the TV's to the 36" size. They are cheaper, and seeing as how it's going in my bedroom fairly close to me, I don't want to get eye-strain. (Also, if it's slightly smaller and still 1080p, it'll be better quality too.)

In actuality, I'm finding it difficult to find TV's that comply to your requests whilst also being around the 36" range. Something like this maybe? http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-e...00000000005702

they measure contrast ratio in whats called Dynamic Contrast Ratio now
though it is no uniformed way to do so. it just prety much means nothing. the TV will look great, bt may notice a not so Dark black coloring. this is common with every LCD

Tnx for the TV recommendation and double post. (TV was good, that's the type of thing I'm after. Tnx again for coming back.) Now If I just had more input from other users who have done/tried/do this, that'd be great...
