Just so whatever happened before doesn't happen again to my brother's monitor, because if it breaks this one I will have to replace it for him, here's some info on the project:
My graphics card is an ATI Radeon 4870 512mb and the monitor refresh rate was on 70Hz when it happened I think, but i've changed it to 60Hz now.
TO ARAKASI or anyone who is reading this, the monitor is plugged in via a vga adapter on my graphics card, which as I said is an ATI Radeon 4870 512mb
I tried both my cables and his cables on my monitor, didn't work, tried both mine and his cables on his monitor, which i'm using now and they both work fine, so I don't think it's a cable problem.
Will I be alright to use his monitor without it breaking, could it be something stupid like the monitor not being compatible with the monitor?

I'm confused. That post doesn't quite make sense :/.
But some monitors require a single-link DVI cable or a dual-link DVI cable.

Default From The Top

I built my new PC, After 2 days, I come home from school, my monitor is broken.
I try it with both my cabes, and the cables from my brother's monitor. Neither of them work. So I borrow my brother's monitor, try both sets of cables and they both work fine. So, right now i'm using my brothers monitor. It is plugged in to my Video card (VGA) which is a 512mb ATI Radeon 4870.
Bear in mind that my monitor which broke was about 3 years old and most nights I forgot to turn it off.

Has it just broken by age? Was it the fact that I always forgot to turn it off so it burnt out?

Will the same thing happen to my brother's when i'm using it now?

Theres pretty much no way a GPU can kill a monitor. By what you have said it sounds like the monitor is faulty. Its probably just from age, my monitor is never turned off fully, and its lasted 3 years or so now, they are designed to be left on, its just luck of the draw how long a component will last.

Default Thanks Coffeejunky

kk, thanks coffeejunky, you've put my mind at rest. Now I know at least on the odd chance my brother's goes out as well I can't be blamed for it lol.
Thanks everyone else also.
