Hey, i'm gonna buy a new monitor since this 17" is getting old and i wanna be able to play games on higher resolution (1600 x 1200)
So anyway, i had this monitor in mind wich is listed in my sig. The price is mentioned aswell. http://www.informatique.nl/123393/asus-vw223d.html Now, i'm not an expert when it comes to monitors, i have no idea what that contrast ratio thing means. (Contrast 3000 : 1) But, aside of that i also wanna ask if there's any other 22" monitoros out there that would be priced less then the current one. I'm on a budget here so if i can cut prices down it would be a great great help. So basicly i'm looking for something thats decent & delivers quality at the same time.

That monitor isn't bad for the price. As far as contrast ratio is concerned, you just need to know that the higher the better.

22" monitors have a native res of 1680x1050. You're actualy losing the number of pixels compared to your current monitor.

Hanns-G, LG, Samsung and ASUS are good monitors manufacturers
That new monitor looks nice, similar to one I was looking at. LG is a good company, so, I think you'll be happy with that

my dutch isn't that good but the 8000:1 contrast ratio is probobly accheived using something called "dynamic contrast" where the display changes the backlight brightness to give the impression of a high contrast ration. My current monitor has it and it drives me crazy, lol.
Either monitor is a good choice though.

It drives you crazy, in what way? Is it like you can actually see its dynamic or will it look like any other monitor? Quote:

Companies love to lie about contrast ratios. There are two types, static and dynamic. Static ratios is the constant number of shades of gray that the panel is able to show. Dynamic contrast is a way to trick users. Dynamic contrast works by dimming the amount of power which the LCD pixels recieve, since they get less power, they aren't as bright, this gives you a higher contrast ratio, BUT, it doesn't look as good if you compared it to a screen with a static contrast ratio that's the same as a dynamic contrast ratio. If you do want to use dynamic contrast to your advantage, you need to find a screen that is very bright, anything less than 450 cd/m2

How do you figure? 17 inchers typically have a native res of 1280x1024 or 1440x900.
