Different variables between your system and theirs but you can get a general picture on the performance hit. 15-20 FPS less might be a fair guess depending on games but with your setup i think it will be just fine.

1920X1200 requires a large frame buffer(amount of ram) and memory interface(in bits) to do as well when compared with lower resolutions that have smaller textrures. So with your 9800 in sli you pretty much end up with 512 megs(data mirroring) of vram working at 512 bits, with two gpus instead of one. A third 9800 will give you 512 megs at 768 bits.

I'm trying to make the point that a third card isn't a good choice in my opinion. Definitely get the monitor because I'm guessing your were maxing most games at 1400X1050. Now you can actually use all the juice in your cards to give you 1920X1200 which in games like crysis is still very good with your setup.

u should be fine, 2 GTX+s can often beat a GTX285, especially since they are KO
id say go for it.

If I had your setup I would pass on upgrading to dual 1gb dx10 cards period. your current setup will do well in most video games at 1920X1200 and I bet they will for the immediate future. DX11 is around the corner and I always like to jump on board with the newest video games with hardware to support it. like for example at doom 3 launch with the late dx9 required a new video card for many people, but it was worth the wait and investment in hardware. So I would wait like probably 6 months to whenever for first gen DX11 cards, which hopefully will be a big leap over current gen cards.

when you do buy a new card I would definitely aim for a 1gb vram. Hopefully 1gb of gddr5 with a 512 bit bus on a single powerful gpu will be available. Who knows I think i've heard of dual core gpu's being researched/developed.
