Default Hanns·G HG-281DPB 28" vs SAMSUNG ToC T240HD 24"

I honestly can't decide between the two.

Hanns·G HG-281DPB 28"
SAMSUNG ToC T240HD 24"

The Hanns has 4" over the Samsung, would kinda fit the looks of my setup better (Everything on my desk is black with either a silver or blue trim), is damn cheap for a 28", and has a very high customer rating with 2 awards. But its size may be too big for my desk, and I'd probably have to regularly back away from my desk to avoid having to actually turn my head to look at the whole screen...

The Samsung has everything else. Plenty of I/O connections, a built in DTV tuner, built in Dolby Digital speakers, high contrast ratio.

The I/O connectors on the Samsung isn't as big of a plus as you may think; I already own an X2VGA that I can plug my PS3 and 360 into, then plug into my monitor through the VGA. As for sound I plug the red and white audio outs from 360/PS3 into a RCA out to 3.5mm jack converter, then that into a double female connector which connects to my computers speakers (I use a headset). So all I'd need is a VGA and HDMI/DVI connection.

As for the DTV tuner, there's not even any cable jacks or anything of that sort around my computer station, so that doesn't matter too much.

Would probably never really use the speakers, unless I by-pass the X2VGA setup and go directly into the monitor, I guess.

And since they both have the same price tag, it really comes down to the picture. Any input is greatly appreciated.

The pixel pitch is going to be different... when you're looking at a 28" with the same resolution as a 24", the picture is going to be a bit clearer on the 24.
You mentioned the 28 being too big for your desk as well, and this is a logical concern. That's another reason I voted for the 24.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the built in tuner could pick up OTA broadcasts if you were to add a relatively inexpensive antenna? If the tuner isn't necessary, have you considered the standard toc240?

I would really really think that the 240 would have a better picture. I know the Hanns-G gets tons of great responses, but I think a lot of folks fall into the "bigger is always better" mindset.

Either way, hope you're happy with whichever direction you take.

My dad has the "Hanns·G HG-281DPB 28", he has never complained about it.

Its huge, and has a good price tag, you should totally get it. When I am in his office, its so big, that its almost too big.

Thanks for the response, never considered an antenna. The standard toc240 is actually more expensive (God knows why) and has fewer connections too.

that's right. I was just looking at the same lcd and the HD was actually the same price as the standard.. this was a week ago on the egg, but still.

yeah. I picked up a $20 phillips antenna at, of all places, walmart. I can pick up upwards of 40 channels and live in the middle of the sticks in NC.

I wonder if all this digital transition bull:turd: would have an affect on the antenna...

Nah that's cool, I have plenty of access to pics. When it comes to monitors I never trust pics to compare screen quality.
