Hi there,
I've just bought a new 720P TV and this TV supports both HDMI and component input. I have a component chord already. So, should I ditch the component and buy the HDMI? The input is from a progressive DVD player and I don't care about the sound. Would the HDMI offer a better graphic than the component? Thanks

Yes, of course. Color through an HDMI cable is more accurate than color through a component cable.

Absolutely yes, HDMI will give you better and more accurate color.

Save your self the money, I sincerly doubt anyone, including you will be able to look at your tv, or any tv for that matter, and be able to accuratly determine whether you are using hdmi or componet. Hdmi is more convient because it's one chord and carries audio, which you stated audio is not a concern. The video difference between hdmi and componet is negligible...... Seriously. G/l

No, it isn't negligible. Analog has lots of downsides, the most noticeable of which is color detrioriation. It's not less "accuracy" per se, but the closer the color of an area is to pure red/blue/green, the more deteriorated it will look. Pure red/blue/green will look completely washed out.

Monoprice.com has some really really cheap HDMI cables.
Ordered one 8ft cable about a week ago for ~$4, ~$7.50 with shipping. Compare that to a local store's $27 for a 3ft....

HDMI FTW, I love the convienence of just having one cable for video and audio and looks much better than component.

I'd agree with HDMI. That is what I use to go from my PC to my 42". It also depends on the use, however, as some DVD players, etc. will actually look better with component than HDMI. I would suggest getting one and then comparing them yourself. You'll most likely be able to use the HDMI cable for another purpose at a later date anyway.
Whatever you decide, don't pay more that $10 for an HDMI cable. As has been stated, monoprice.com has very good prices. That is where I bought my 10 ft HDMI for around $5-10. Shipping cost more than the actual cable. I would have paid over $100 at Best Buy or Target for a similar cable.

Another example...

Pay special attention to skin color and the red wire. "Unpossible" :P But seriously, no >_> If it somehow looks better, then that's a malfunction or a bug or something, but I doubt anyone can manage that.
