Hey!
I am thinking of getting a 24" TN panel (G2400WD), however I have heard some stories that even if you move your head "slightly" (a few cm) the colors will be different and not equal on the whole monitor. OK. So I have used a 19" TN panel before and I do not recognize this at all. I assume the 24" has that problem (does it really? Will come to it) because it's a lot larger. Most of the time I will be sitting straight and looking at the screen. Sometimes leaning back on my desk, but still looking forward. Is it really like this? This is not about a monitor having bad/good colors but the TN panel problem. Even if I move my head slightly, will the colors be different? I don't really think so.. I mean I did some tests and I can have full view over the monitor. Those who have 24" PN Panels, or even better G2400WD.. How is it? Thanks! |

its not a problem, that's the nature of TN panels. People tend to exaggerate the color shifting. But really if you don't do graphic design then it doesn't really matter.
consider samsung monitors. afaik all their 24" and above are non TN

Lean back in your chair and look at these two images. On a TN panel, they seem to have different lighting. Sit up and watch it more or less even out (there's still a difference, it's just lesser).
In reality, it's just the same image repeated twice. So yes, it's a "problem", but not really unless you really need to know exactly how everything looks. Once you get used to how your screen is, you'll automatically compensate for these differences and be aware of them, so no real harm done. ![]()

Well, there's really nothing else to be said. You saw for yourself. All TN panels are like this, though some to a lesser degree. If this bothers you that much, don't get a TN panel.

What are you going to be using the monitor for?
Graphic design? gaming? general computing? If you answered yes to anything but graphic design a TN panel should be just fine for you. I would also recommend that you buy a samsung monitor, everyone who has owned one will say the same.

TN panels have one advantage over other LCD technologies:
response times. If you want to game, get a TN. If you don't, then you can look at other technologies, such as IPS, and make a decision from there.

Yup, I still notice a little bit of ghosting on my monitor for gaming, but it's definitely more acceptable than the ghosting I've seen in old laptops.
__________________As for the color skewing as you move your head, it's there, but not very noticeable (again, this is for my monitor, other ones might have it worse). I still think people grossly over exaggerate though when they talk about sitting dead center in front of their LCD and can see color shifting on the left and right sides of their monitor unless they got a really bad monitor. I can see how it might be a problem though for people who need to do graphics design where color accuracy is extremely important.
