Default Calibration

I've got settings pretty good but I can't stop changing them. One minute everything seems about right, then the next, I feel something is too dark or too bright. I've tried a set of calibration test images, and if I get the settings right on one test, it makes another test look too bright or too dark. How do you go about your calibration, do you find yourself changing it quite a bit? It's quite a tricky balancing act tweaking the ati CCC contrast, gamma and brightness, and also the contrast, brightness and gamma from the monitor itself. I'd love to know what people would say about how my screen looks and if they reckon it's right, but that's impossible because everyone would just see my screen with their own settings.

For instance, if you check out the black level image and the white saturation image here http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

I can get it so I can see all the black squares, but then I can't see all the bottom patterns on the white saturation image. And if I make it so I can see all the white saturation patterns, then most of the black squares on the black level page become invisible, lol. Nightmare. It's like closing the trunk of a car and the bonnet flips open, then closing the bonnet and the trunk flips open

Are the light conditions in your room changing?

There are devices that can calibrate your monitor based on the ambient conditions of your room, keeping the calibration at a subjective constant.

Sounds interesting. Where might one find such a device?

I guess so, wasn't taking info in properly, bit of a headache today. I kind of thought it might be some auto calibration software or something.
