Default HDTV Suggestions?

So I'm finally gonna upgrade to an HDTV!

I've got $2000 to spend on it, and it's gotta be 50" or larger.

So far the two I think sound the best are the Samsungs LN52B750 and PN58B650. But I haven't looked at that many.

Any suggestions?

I don't give a crap about power usage or any gimmicky features like interactive weather and news thingies, and I don't need any sort of media streaming built in (got an HTPC for that). Well, PIP would be useful, but that's about it. All I really care for is picture quality and size (in that order).

But yeah, I'm looking into the sound system too . I got some really, really nice sounding speakers but the system is only two channel.

i was going to sugest the samsung PN58N650.. well the 650 series in general I have the 860 series but the 650 is suppose to have a slightly better picture from what i heard. If you care about picture quality go plasma since its got the darkest darks and best whites. =]

keep an eye on amazon i got my 50 inch 860 series for around $1000.. (with promo code) $1200 less then resale and free shipping and no tax

Edit: oh and the 850 is cnets #2 best tv overall (beat out by a panasonic which was way more expensive) and the 650 is just like the 850 minus the bells and whissles :P

Edit of the edit: whoops make that the 860 is the the #3 overall best..

$1k? That's a steal

Yeah the only reason I'm hesitant with plasma is because of the letterbox/pillarbox burn in that can come with 4:3 games and 2.35:1 movies. Do you get the dark burn in at the top and bottom after watching those movies?

thats what i was somewhat hesitant too .. i was debating between their led series. which is suppose to be the best.. since samsung just came out with the led tv with local dimming but at like .. what was it .. 4k? X___X but in 4 months i had one issue with burn in when i left my xbox 360 on for 2 hours on the main menu and had "battlefield: bad company" burned in pretty bad. But 4 hours of scrolling (how samsung gets rid of burn in) and it was gone. =] pretty much burn in isnt an issue pretty much since there are so many prevention measures and fixes then when plasmas first came out.

oh but dealing with letter boxes there wont be burn in. when i use my computer which leaves a 1 by 2 inch bessal around the picture there has never been any burn in so far. i use my computer about 2 times a week for 7 hours. but i also have a cable box that is only 4:3 and thats used every night for 3 hours and no burn in eather. =]

So I went and took a look at some TVs in a few shops today and, well, 50" isn't gonna cut it like I thought it would (it looks like its the same size as my CRT lol). But I can't afford 60"+ sets with any sort of decent picture quality.

The LCDs had pictures that looked more like cartoons than real people, and between the Plasmas Panasonic's TC-P50V10 looked a bit better than the Samsung 650. Except the 58" Panasonic costs an arm and a leg.

So the PN58B650 it is
