Forcing 2560x1600 On a 23" Monitor

I own a Asus 23" 1080p LCD monitor and I want to force 2560x1600 somehow, there has to be a way because i can run the Crysis time demo at that resolution no problem but nothing else and it works fine, what can i do?

im thinking that you can run the demo at that cause the screen is overscanning (not displaying the full image)
a graphics card can output any resolution - its only if the monitor supports it. so the card can run the demo at whatever res
