OLEDs are pretty, but CRTs are still best. I've seen OLED displays mainly as very small screens. Audio consoles have been adapting tiny (1 inch square) OLED displays for variable parameters on channel strips. The big digital broadcast consoles have them (Calrec Apollo comes to mind).
Also, that video is proof of nothing other than CRTs produce measurable amounts of radiation. Almost every electronic device is.

LOL

I'm sorry, I'm not usually a big fan of flaming on the internet, but you've obviously never taken anything more than elementary physics if any at all. Take an E&M class an you might realize that the 78 miligauss that he's claiming is less than that of the earth's magnetic field (About 700 miligauss at the low end).

This old dude is measuring a magnetic field around a CRT... Well that's probably because a CRT uses a relatively powerful magnetic to create the picture you see on the screen (bends electrons to specific parts of the screen).

EDIT: I didn't make myself perfectly clear: Measuring a magnetic field around a computer component is a given. Anytime an electron flows through a wire you get a magnetic field perpendicular to the current.

Well of course. It can't be a display if it doesn't emit radiaton (eg. light)

Actually I'm quite well informed in electrical theory. The electromagnetism is leaking out in what is called radiation, but what exactly is this radiation? They are the wave lengths that beam out in every direction caused by the the electrons that flow in one constant direction. In fact if you read up, you will see what amount of Mili Gauss's the federal government recommends for a human being to be exposed to, and you will see the CRT greatly exceeds that.

I suggest you do some reasearch. That video, at it's worst, showed 80 milligauss which is 0.08guass - earths magnetic field is something like 0.4 guass AFAIK.

This is besides the fact that it's a measure of magnetism, when you should really be concerned about Roentgen's.

I'm really not sure what that video is trying to prove?

EDIT: Seems I was beat to it. The video shows that electricity in coils creates magnetic fields - who would have guessed.

Notice how the meter dropped significantly when they moved a few inches away! How does that prove anything about autism? Autism is the result of defects in chromosome pairing or crossover in meiosis, and is a condition from birth... I don't think they're going to "develop" autism from looking at a computer screen. Children are by far more active, and probably wouldn't want to sit in front of a computer all day anyway..

Look kid, here's the deal. I'm bored. Therefore I decided to give you university level examples of what a few miligauss can do to a human being. Actually wait, I decided to go and grab some information regarding a few Teslas worth of exposure (1 Tesla is about 80000 gauss).

CLIFF NOTES: Magnetic fields aren't that bad, and it looks like they don't cause increased incidents of cancer. Guidelines (revised Apr. 2009) are about 400 mT (or about 4000 gauss (4000k miligauss)).

The european equivalent of OSHA commenced a study of the effects of different forms of magnetic exposure, and the health risks. In the Journal of Health and Physics (Vol. 96 N. 4 Apr. 2009) they posted their finding about the effects of static magnetic fields (such as those from CRTs). This article is quite interesting, however two sections caught my eye.

One was a section measuring the human physiological changes associated with an 8T field... the findings were that even though the machines measuring the ECG failed, the subjects themselves were un damaged (starting pg. 508 inclusive).

Furthermore, they discussed studies regarding the epidemiological side effects of extended (lifelong in most cases) exposure to magnetic fields on the order of 10-30 mT (around 200 gauss). In many situations they found no effect on humans, however in a few they did find slightly increased risk of a few type of cancer. Guess where these people were working though? Mostly alluminum smelting plants, nuclear power plants, chlorine processing plants, and other nasty places. (starting pg. 509 inclusive)

Anyway, I'm sure almost no one will read this, but if you guys want to read the article it has loads of information.

LED panels are far better! Dynamic Contrast ratios are in the millions.

If you can find one, get an LED backlit LCD that is an IPS panel.

You are wrong. CRT beats LCD/OLED is every aspect you mentioned and more.

Not to say there aren't obvious drawbacks of size and weight, but your claims are way off.

EDIT: iquark, thanks for the info - and I'll admit I probably won't get around to reading that PDF. Your post summed up more than enough information for me
