So, Christmas is coming up and I'm wanting to grab an HDTV for my parents. HDTV's are not something I follow and keep up to date with so I have no clue what to look for. Any and all help would be much appreciated. I'm definitely wanting a 42 inch.

Panosonic is definitly the best choice, good prices good quality. Just throwing this out there, if you want to spend upwards close to 10k, get a pioneer elite plasma ![]() obvious to me, but i wouldnt go with it whats the point? DEAL OF THE CENTURY 46" Sharp 1080p 120hz for $999 1000 dollars off, two years ago i paid 1300 for my 37" sharp 1080p 60 hz http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sharp+-+...2046&cp=1&lp=1

Check this one out. I did a video review (below) it is amazing for the price. It is only 720p but everything I read said under 50" you can't tell that big of a difference. And it is a 42". Ended up getting it for about $650, probably cheaper now.

What will the TV be used for, besides watching TV
? If it has anything got do with games, stay away from plasmas. They have high screen burn in rates.

Pioneer panels are produced at a Panasonic factory, so they're really no better. More than $2500 for a 42" is a rip-off imo. FullHD 50" Panas are only $3000 or so. Only Panasonic and Samsung make the panels anymore. Panasonic has roughly 6x the capacity of Samsung. As for the burn in, the Panasonic rep has told us to tell customers that they no longer suffer. They have Image Retention but not burn in. THis means the image may stay, but only temporarily. And I can back this up. One of our demo loops burnt into a 42" Pana, so we turned it to normal tv for half an hour, and it went away. But I agree with everyone else. Your best bet is a Panasonic TH-P42X10A or equivalent. This one is FullHD, but doesn't have all the extra crap the G10A comes with.

![]() As for price, http://www.pioneerelectronics.ca/POC...+TVs/PRO-150FD The one i got, $8,999 Pretty close to 10 grand. As for the OP I dont think anyone can recommend anything else, the viera plasma's by panasonic are priced very well, and are better then most of the competetion.
