Default 1920x1200 vs 2048x1152

Ok so I'm getting a new monitor and I between these two:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824179058
and
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-317-_-Product

My friend has a 1920x1200 monitor and I really like the resolution, however 2048x1152 sounds pretty impressive too, I was wondering what you guys opinions were on these two resolutions, I do not know a lot about the 2048x res, is it distorted looking? etc etc. Thanks in advance!

I'd go with the Samsung because of the brand. They're both high enough resolutions.

I wouldn't touch anything with a native resolution of 2048x1152. It's not standard for computer monitors or TVs.

I also personally think you should stick to 20-22" on your budget. $230 for a 24" is not going to look all that good, trust me. You'll want to have about $450 for a decent 24". $650 for a good one.

Note: Newegg will NOT return the monitor if you don't like it. They consider 24" to big for a refund. Many people get screwed when buying monitors, as lots of companys have this policy.

Setting aside the resolution, I'd definitely take the Samsung over that other crap.

For the resolution, More is better, providing your GPU can handle it, Which it should for almost all games.

Standard PC resolutions (Widescreen):
1440x900
1680x1050
1920x1200
2560x1600

Standard TV Resolutions (Widescreen):

1920x1080

At wierd resolutions many games will have funky FOV settings, or just simply not recognize the resolution, forcing you to play at a non-native resolution and most likely stretching or cropping the image. I'm a very picky guy though, so he may not mind it. Most new games allow you to force a resolution as well.

Yeah I was thinking that too but I'm sure the game will adjust fine if he sets it to say 1920x1200. Most games should recognize the res though considering 1920x1080 is recognized and its the same aspect ratio of 1.77.

No, It works fine providing it's in a fixed aspect ratio.

Definitely a nice monitor, I'd buy it. (Its probably the one I am buying for Christmas)
