Default Choosing a new monitor. Need input.

I've narrowed down my choices. I have heard around that Samsung is top of the line, but what about this Asus?

The "full 1080P"/16:9 monitors tend to blend into each other as far as quality goes; that is, there's not much difference between them. Compared to a 16:10 IPS/PVA panel, there's a world of difference no matter who made it.

Are you saying I should get a 1920x1200 monitor?

I'm saying they'd be higher quality. It depends on what you'd use them for and if it matters that much what aspect ratio you want.

Im sorry, but i can't agree with you on this one. I have 2 asus 1080p monitors and they are no where less quality then my sams 24 inch 1920x1200 monitor. Quality wise the only thing better on the sam monitor is it has higher brightness which isn't that visible, even when i compare them face to face. I am using a 2 monitor setup right now on my desktop and using my 24 inch as my media center monitor.

Also, there is a HUGE difference if you get samsung 1080p vs my asus one, samsung is a lot better, the only reason i got mine is because a local store had a sale on them get 1 get the second one 70% off.

Edit: These are the monitors i have
Asus

I thought you never really noticed any difference between 720P and 1080P till you went beyond 32". Anything under that is just similar.

For a monitor? i really hope your kidding.

Thats like saying you don't notice a difference between a 14 inch laptop monitor with a res of 1360x768 vs a 24 inch 1920x1080.

720p = 1360x768 usually.
1080p = 1920x1080

omg.....

the only reason i didn't pick that up when i was getting monitors is because of the deal mentioned above. My friend has that monitor and it is great.

In my opinion the only thing that is bad with it, is watching video on it is horrible, and if you try to play a game that doesn't support that res and you have to set your res lower, the aspect ratio tries to change and then you just get a really horrible picture. At least that the problems ive seen with my friends monitor.

That's the reason and part of the basis of my words. Both of your monitors have TN panels (though not from the same company). Go back and read what I said, which was "16:10 IPS/PVA panel". My brother's 22" Samsung (with laptop-ish resolution) is MUCH harder on the eyes to read fine text at the same resolution, and some of the images don't look as good as on mine, as his is a TN compared to the PVA panel in mine. I know you'd say "but lowering resolution takes it away from its optimal quality", and I'm familiar with that argument. Thing is, I've worked with many different TN-equipped monitors at various native resolutions and they all have similar levels of quality at similar resolutions. I have NOT, however, worked with a monitor with an IPS panel, which is supposed to be even better than PVA (I can't imagine this as this panel is near perfection as it is... but I do believe it).
