Default Need help choosing a 50-54" Plasma

So my old 32" 720p LCD sure as heck ain't going to cut it in the new house. The family room is 16' wide.

Anyone have first-hand recommendations for a 50-54" 1080p Plasma? Been looking on amazon and I think, so far based on reviews and price, Panasonic Viera G10 or S1 looks like a good choice. But I don't know.

So some more digging and browsing through avsforum, I'm leaning towards the 54" S1. (http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-VIER...8383779&sr=1-1)

Maybe using that as a starting point might help.

Just recently bought a Samsung PN50B550 and I'm extremely pleased with my purchase. With a little tuning, the picture is great and when you consider what I paid, there's hardly a better deal out there.

I would recommend panasonic or samsung i own a PN50B860 which is very nice. Overall the best that you can get is a Panasonic TC-P50V10 which is about 2k on amazon but thats the only Panasonic I would get. Other then that samsung pictures are much better, ThePN50B650 is the best picture quality that Samsung makes according to multiple reviews by editors (cnet is one). The PN50B860 that i have is almost the same thing but not as deep black levels, internet capable and.. $1000 more (*Sigh*.. =[ )
but yeah.. I would definately recommend Amazon for buying i got my Plazma 2 months ago pretty much about 60% off It was resaleing for $2200
and i got it with promo codes and discounts for $1000 with free shipping and tax free.. hope this all helps =]

Plasma: Pioneer KRP-500M. I had Pioneer Kuro 151FD as my computer monitor and HDTV for blu-ray and consoles games. I sold it and got myself Pioneer KRP-500M ($1600) without tuner or TV stands. The picture quality of Kuro KRP-500M is top-notch and have the deepest black level

Thanks everyone. kasuza, that does look nice, but seems it's a lot closer to $2000 everywhere I look.

Anyone have recommendations for a 54"?

I had done some reading in the past when I was looking at a big LCD/Plasma. One of the cons of the plasma was that the screens were subject to burn in. Does anybody with past experience care to weigh in on this? I plan on using it as a display for my computer/xbox/satellite.

I've been around avsforum and a bazillion other sites researching new TVs and they seem to be negligibly more susceptible to burn in than a LCD.

Yeah they are more susceptible to burn in, ive had it happen a few times but they now have picture scrolling which scrolls black to white over the screen over and over again do that for 30 min and its all good. i even just watched a movie and it went away =] just keep moving the pixels.

I play a lot of games with HUD like interfaces on them so if I understand you correctly this shouldn't be a problem as long as I don't play for 20 hours on end?

As long as your playing the game you shouldnt have any problems even with huds i played hours call of duty, halo. and left for dead with no issue with this. if there is any burn in just put on the "scanning" in the tv tools or settings and it will get rid of it. Burn in was a problem with plasmas in the early 2000's and 90's but technology has changed alot since then so burn in is pretty much never permanent or really a problem since its fixable. But there is a chance if an static image is left on the screen for i would say days then theres a little chance of bad burn in.
