Default Help?! screen goes black!

Hey, i didn't know where to put this because i don't actually know the problem..

The problem is, my sister has a laptop which she wanted me to fix, but i can't seem to figure it out, i would like to look at rebooting as a last resort!
Anyway, the problem is i turn it on and it starts to load up windows, as in the loading bar appears then the screen goes completely black!
It stays on but there is just no visual display, even though the windows logo and loading bar appears at first!?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks

Go into safe mode via pressing f8 repeatedly just before it starts loading XP. If you can get into here update all the systems drivers such as chipset drivers and other system drivers. Also if you can get into safe mode type ''MSCONFIG'' in the run command bar and disable anystart up items that arnt needed. If you still have problems go into the bios and load up the ''Fail safe defaults''. Then save and exit.

No Mate i mean download the driver files and install them as such. Download a program called ''Sisoft sandra'' from here http://download.guru3d.com/sandra/ and tell me the components on that laptop. I need to know this so i can find the right drivers for the hardware. Unless you can tell me stuff like what graphics adapter is in that system and the kind of chipset and sound device.

ok hears the latest.
I tried in safe mode but it would only get to the part where two safe mode texts are in the bottom right and left hand corner with some more text above and everything else is black... and it just stays like that.. i can't seem to do anything, so i just though reboot... now i put in the windows xp pro disk and it says (somewhere on the lines of):
"press any key to boot/continue"

I do then it says...
"Inspecting your computers hardware"

Then it goes black and dose nothing.... what the hell??

So i put in my windows xp home disk (the laptop had xp home on before) and it starts to boot, i cancelled half way though because it would be nice to have xp pro rather than a win xp home restore disk that came with one of my pc's.

Do you think the laptop can't handle xp pro?? it is like 5/6 years old!

The laptop should be able to handle XP pro. To be honest it sounds like a hdd Problem or atleast a hardware problem. Install XP home and you can always upgrade to xp pro.

hehe im back so soon! and more annoyed than ever lol!! It got to like 25% and i was like phew then it came up with a error somewhere on the lines of not being able to read or install "GHOSTERR.txt".... and that was it...
Do you think its because its a disk for eMachines which i got when i bought my eMachines computer? because the laptop is a Dell.
I didn't think that would be a problem and i really don't have to money at the moment to go out and buy win xp home, what would be even more destroying is that if i did then i find out it does the same thing... mhh but it can't be a hardware problem can it? because it doesn't display any error messages about the hard drive or anything like that?

Help please
Thanks!!

Well you cant use an Emachines recovery disk with Dell hardware so there is your problem im afraid mate. You need a Retail official copy of windows XP.

Also check that you battery pack is not to blame as if its not supplying enough power to the laptop then this will be your issue aswel. Plug it straight into the mains and see if this still happens
