This board has a problem supporting two one gig dimms. ECS has led me to believe that the dimm voltage is not sufficient to power two one gig chips at 667 Mhz. Thier workaround is a bios patch that causes the memory to run at 533. I do not accept this and would like to volt mod the dimms in order to run my memory at specified speeds. If anyone could assist me in doing so that would be cool.

What happens if you just increase the RAM voltage in BIOS ?

you can increase the voltage in the bios to a max of .150 above stock however it does not fix the unstable memory problems.

the motherboard is not supplying the memory with enough voltage in order for the memory to stay stable at 667mhz. the bios is unable to change the voltage enough to fix this. the latest bios update makes the memory run at 533mhz in order to stay stable. i would like to volt mod the dimm slots so that i can directly control the voltage going into the memory instead of the motherboard doing so.

What voltage is the memory rated at ? Have you looked for a BIOS update that might increase the voltage more than .15 volts ?

Even if you do a Vdimm mod on your board it still will be what is regulating the voltage supplied to the memory. There is no way to "directly" control supply voltage to your memory that i know of ( unless your refering to a variable resistor type mod which is not quite voltage control) There are however ways to increase the voltage the IC allows in relation to the values in your BIOS i.e. modding it so that that the value .150 after mod = .250 for example. You need to find the IC that is responsible for Vdimm voltage regulation before you can go about this however. For this you will need a datasheet most likely.

What it involves is a general knowledge of resistors, circuitry and IC's along with soldering experience and skill most likely. Volt modding can be quite easy or rather difficult but it should never in my opinion be attempted without a LOT of research and forethought regardless of the difficulty. Your dealing with hardware modification here and if you muck it up you may end up with no motherboard at all.

I second "Google". Run Google searches specifying the boards model # with the words "mod", "volt", etc... Also search this and other OC forums for the board's model #; you might find what you are looking for. Or even a varient, meaning that the solution you seek may not be a volt mod; it could be something else like a custom BIOS. Customizing your BIOS I might add, is not that difficult. I did mine, based on some help from DFI Street. "TMod" over there has some great information; I even bought a second BIOS chip from him in case this one gets pooched; I can pull it out and use the back-up to save me from myself, if in the even I customize my BIOS to the point it doesn't work anymore.
