Yeah, I just used a number 2 pencil, I don't really think that shading it more will make it more stable. I shaded it around 10 times because it is hard to rub off the lead (graphite I guess) onto the tiny resistor or transistor or whatever it's called. Just shade it so that you can see the lead and that it connects both of the little bumps on the transistor well. You might want to make sure that there isn't a raise in the vcore on idle or load, it has been known to happen, not on this mobo as far as I know though. If it goes over on load or on idle I would just erease the mod and shade a little less.

Have no clue. It would really make the board alot more appealing on arrival, but If your knowledged anough to have seen anything about modding the board you have bought, and its as easy as taking a pencil to a small piece, then its not to much of a big deal.

I did notice a difference in the Vdroop with the Voltage damper Enabled and Disabled, but with the damper set to AUTO I seen the same vcore's as with it disabled under orthos load. Enabled is the only thing that helps by the way

From my experience anyway..

Alrighty, finally got the board, overclocked a little and tried the pencil mod as well. It's weird though.

When I set the voltage in BIOS at 1.4v, I see 1.344 in the OS (CPU-Z and Speedfan). That's at idle. When I load the CPU with Prime95 on all 4 cores, the voltage stays at 1.344...doesn't budge. Now that may seem like good news but that's CRAZY vdroop at idle isn't it?? I've never seen a difference that big at idle before. Anyway, I really do like this board but I just wanted to know if anyone else noticed this on their board as well.

By the way, I'm running BIOS 0806 which is the latest. The Voltage Damper has been replaced with Load Line *Support* or something like that. My board shipped with BIOS 070x and I should've backed it up before flashing but moving up to 0806 replaced Voltage Damper with Load Line *something or other*. I should test out whether that does anything or not.

Well, great board, going for 400FSB tonight.

Crazy vdroop you say? 1.5 volts in bios, 1.45 idle and 1.4 under OCCT test .. the almighty Maximus Formula has quite a vdroop problem there!

The difference between the vcore set the BIOS and the vcore that appears in CPU-Z or any other program doesn't matter. The purpose of a vdroop mod is to get the vcore solid under load instead of going below what it is set at idle. This will allow you to get a more stable overclock because the voltage won't go below what you set it under idle and also a vdroop mod will allow you to run your processor to run cooler at idle because it won't take as much voltage to run it. Hope this helps .

indeed i agree with you, but the droop still stands over load and its quite a drop, 0.05v which is enough to cause problems for me im still looking into it though, just started testing the max o/c of the proc!

The vdroop mod might be different for your motherboard, but it's probably the same. I would redo the mod, make sure it is shaded in really well and that it connects the two little bumps on the resistor or transistor thing that you shade in well.

Crysis is presume? . Yeah, it sounded like you did the vdroop mod to your motherboard and it turned out poorly. You should try it, it works quite well, although I'm not sure if it's the same as the P5K-E vdroop mod. Good luck.

No not Crysis yet just finished bioshock and i'll be on CoD4 next, in between BF2142 games, and some trackmania on lazy times. i have so many to play now its hard to keep up with sleeping! i'll be trying bios settings first, if that doesnt work i'll have to go for a pencil based (i will have to buy a pencil, who woulda thought) mod
