Default What benefits are there for volt modding?

Sorry for asking an obviously dumb question. But I saw this sub forum and was curious.

I have a P5LD2 motherboard, is there anything to "volt mod" on it? Just wondering.

Thx for looking.

I don't know any specifically for that but i think volt modding gets more power into w/e and overclocks more

more stable power supply and much less of a voltage drop. Not to mention that you can supply a lot more than stock. But primarily its just dont to provide "clean" power.

It's usually to stop vDroop. Which can lower the amount of voltage a CPU recieves when under stress. Elminating vDroop can allow for a more stable Overclock at lower voltages.

My Voltmodded P5K3 cures the VDIMM and VCORE droop/drop issues. It also opens up a much higher range of voltages (by twisting the trim pots) for extreme overclocking at subzero temps.

Simple voltmods often double up caps or add a wire or carbon (pencil mod) to supplement a trace to cure droop issues.

usually it's not necessary on motherboards and done by people who don't understand Vdroop to more of a degree than it "has to do with a lower voltage and higher voltages always mean better overclocks" and "it's something manufacturers are obliged to put on by Intel to hold back performance from the masses and make people buy more expensive CPUs". find and read the famous vdroop thread to learn about modern motherboard voltmodding, which is mainly about removing vdroop.

Voltmodding had its uses on motherboards in the past, and probably cheap nasty motherboards without voltage control for overclocking in bios; and it's useful for things like graphics cards, without adjustable voltages for overclocking. On high end motherboards, the only real people who would benefit are people who are trying to break benchmark records with things like liquid nitrogen cooled CPUs.

Some amount of vdroop is good/necissary.

Volt mods exist to either reduce excessive vdroop, or to allow voltage ranges beyond what can be set in the BIOS.

Anyway, if you don't know exactly what a vmod is and what you would intend to do with one, you don't need to vmod.
