NVIDIA Reference Board pencil vdroop mod (eVGA, XFX, and BFG)
Thanks to Treatment X I finally have the vdroop mod for the eVGA rev A1 board. I just tested it out and my board has no vdroop. I have it set in bios at 1.35v, speedfan and CPUZ show it as 1.34v and 1.336v repectively. I then ran Orthos and saw no drop at all in the vcore, it never even fluctuated!

Thanks again to Treatment X!

picture enlarged from xtremesystems member symphy's post.

I only needed 2-3 pencil strokes between the red dots on the resistor labeled "Vdroop 100k VR".

Its normal. Read this article at Anandtech:

http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets...spx?i=3184&p=5

It explains the purpose of Vdroop and what happens when it is removed. This is exactly what you are experiencing.

yikes. so you have no idea what you're doing, or why. and you're just doing it cuz you can and you've read here and elsewhere that it's a good mod for oc'ing. i'd like to know how many people are doing this and if they really understand what they're doing. great article sirokket16, that should be stickied. to get an idea of overshoot. the sensors telling you about the .01 volts aren't fast enough to see the overshoot. and btw who CARES about .01v. that is nothing. if you are really pushing the limit with your oc and are trying to get that last couple of degrees back,,, maaaaybeee. i would say just get off of air and into some serious cooling. otherwise be happy with the oc you got. i want to know how many cpu's are frying cuz of the vdroop mod. it's GOT to shorten the life of any cpu.. right?

Doesn't shorten the life of any cpu, it kills the motherboard over time. Which is why my 680i is being RMAd right now. The problems began slowly. First I was crashing, then my one of my sound channels died, then something with the hdd controller. I've learned from this, and will never vdroop mod any board. This is just good for a one time use.

And by the way, thanks for reviving an old thread..
