Safe voltages: 1.360Vcore (according to CPU-Z) You can go higher and "risk" damaging the chip, and well I've pushed my 8400 FAR past the safe voltages, like 1.45Vcore (according to CPU-Z)
Safe temps: 72*c is the max that I'd let it go, any higher then I'd probably **** a brick, max I'm happy with is 60*c. I think the E0 version can go higher then the non-E0 edition. I've pushed mine to 4.5GHz on air before, ran Prime95 for 5 minutes and then bsod with reasonable temps. Depending on which cpu cooler you're running you should be able to hit 4.2GHz on air fine. I've from my own personal experience been able to get a nice stable overclock on 4.0GHz with 1.360Vcore (on cpuz) I think it's something like 1.4Vcore on the P5N-D bios, with 1.62V NB, and then the VTT, and the SB are up for you to find. good luck on your overclocking adventures and I wish you safe overclocking.Crim2, make a different thread in the Intel section, either motherboard or processor place.

if u use ai overclocking .p5n-d will set Cvoltage to 1.4V.ye konw, its too high a little dangerous.
so when u overclock E8400 on p5n-d.u may break the link between ram and Fsb.u must break it. And set the Cvoltage by manual. 1.2125V(display round 1.15 in Cpu-Z) 3.6G (400*9) .it stablely works. to my opinion,it really hard to overclock E8400 from 3.0 to 4.0 on p5n-d. Really harrrrrrd! |
