Question P5N-D HELP! Overclocking my E8400 Wolfdale

This has been quite a trip for a newbie like me. I'm new to overclocking. I have no idea what to set my voltages at, although I,ve experimented a little. I own a custom build with an Asus P5N-D mobo and a E8400 3.0ghz processor. I would like to see at least 3.6-3.8ghz which from what I've read this processor is fully capable of on air cooling. I have no idea about how to set the voltages and I cant seem to find an exact match on my mobo/cpu combination. Anyone with any information on what would be safe with air cooling as far as voltages with this combo please let me know. Thank you.

Just read this while looking around the net but no voltage listings and wasnt my mobo either. 4.1ghz on air cooling at 45 degrees. Nice.

Im having the same problem, at the moment trying to use asus suite to overclock but over 5% it just crashes, so if anyone could help me over clock my asus p5n-D with a E8400 that would be great, a step by step guide would be even better coz once im in the bios I have no idea what to do im a complete noob lol

Its realy easy - neolight90
I have E8400 + P5N-D 4GB DDR2 800 CL4
To overclock to 3.6 in BIOS set vcore to 1.18750(in windows CPU-Z will show 1.15v), NB to 1.34
set PCI-E to 100 and memory timings manualy(I set mine to 4-4-4-12 but It depends what DDR2 sticks You have). Then You set FSB(QDR) to 1600(400 x 9) which gives us 3.6GHz

If You want to OC to 3.4GHZ
1)
set vcore to E8400 default 1.11250 in bios(in Win CPU-Z will show 1.07), NB to 1.3 HT to 1.4.Set FSB to 1512 , DDR2 to 756.
OR
2)
set vcore to E8400 default 1.11250 in bios(in Win CPU-Z will show 1.07), NB to 1.34 decrease CPU ratio to 8.5 and set FSB to 1600 (400 x 8.5 = 3.4) and set DDR2 to 800...
Temperatures are very nice because 1.11250 at vcore is CPU stock...

For 3.6ghz, what did you set your SB voltage at? HP voltage? You have your memory at 2T? and about what voltage on your memory?

HT & SB stayed at auto, as for memory: yes 2T. I have Geil ultras 800 CL4 set to 2.1, but it all depends on what sticks You have... Simply You have to manualy set memory voltage and timings to Your memory defaults.

OK so when You enter Chipset settings, set memory voltage to 1.85V , and then set the timings to 5-5-5-15. P5N-D keeps the CPU real HOT compared to some other boards( older Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3 has E8400 CPU temp on about 36-37 idle , 45 load on stock cooler!!) So I simply wouldnt AI overclock because when You manualy do this the temps will be much better. Andwhen we talk about GF8600GTS it depends what king of cooling it has(often 8600 series has poor coolings with memory wide open which cant be overclocked a lot...)

Maybe You gived too high vcore when You overclocked 1st time? I heard that if You do so Your CPU can lose some OC ability after a while...
