Default vdrop / vdroop question.

Hi There guys,

I just have one small question.

I just did a great pencil mod on my eVGA 680i, and I was able to fix my vdroop using this helpful link:

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=154897

I get no vdroop from idle to load anymore. It's nice.

But my one question is concerning the vdrop mod. I want to do it because I enter in 1.50 in bios and it shows up as 1.48. It's ok, because there's no vdroop, but Is there a point to doing this mod?

What would be the benefit of doing the vdrop mod?

Thanks...

bon3

1. Some MBs only support up to a certain voltage, with the mod you can get the full volts.
2. Some people say its more stable, no fluctuation
3. To say you did a mod <--- most common

Well I gained stability doing the vdroop mod thus far, I was just wondering if doing the vdrop mod would give me even more stability...

My quad needs a solid 1.48 to get to 3.6GHz. It's alot and it's annoying me, so I want to make sure my voltages are stable...

Another question: I know it's offtopic, but do you think my PSU could do SLI with two 9800GTX's?

I'm thinking it might. nVidia and eVGA recommend I think around 700-750w I think..

Not likely, i would say 750w min with some good amps and even 750w is pushing it. 850w+

see now that's the last thing I wanted to do, buy a new psu..

Yeah so if anyone could verify that there are actual tangible benefits to doing the vdrop mod other than just getting the same reading idle as in bios, that would be great...

As long as you got the vdroop out of the way that is all that matters. Vdrop or what you set in bios and what you get out unless your maxing out your mobo voltage isnt going to matter.

Its the final voltage thats going to the cpu that matters so if you want 1.48 and you have to set 1.50 to get it but that 1.48 is steady for idle and load then your golden and I wouldnt mod anything else.

Alright... thanks man. Thanks for the help guys....

Well, I'll buy another 9800GTX in a couple days, and if my 650w can't take it, maybe i'll just return the GPU... I can't afford to dish out more money for PSU and stuff..

oh boy.. I got lots to do.. mod my case, lap my cpu... ugh, it's stressful lol

I did the vdroop mod on my mobo. I had to use 1.45 to get 3.8. Now I use 1.42 @ 3.8 with a vdroop of -.03. Before I was getting-.06. And it is stable.

yeah there's no doubt that vdroop helps heaps... on my old p5k I couldn't even hit 3.4 until I did the vdroop mod...

If vdrop actually helped, i'd be all over it...I need my vcore as low as possible... these temps are killing me.. and it's summer
