Default Question about this picture for volt mod

In this picture it shows a red line. Do you make your pencil marks along that red line or do you do it in the middle of that little chip or what ever it is. To me the marks look like they are in the middle.

I just used the pencil to cover that whole section with lead, between the silver lines and touching them. Like I was coloring on the top of the resistor.
