Question Need help overclocking

I need help overclocking my PC. I have a Gigabyte GA-X48-DQ6 mobo, OCZ Reaper HPC 4 x 2GB DDR2 1066 (PC2-8500) Ram, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0 GHz with FSB 1333, EVGA 01G-P3-N869-AR GeForce 9600GT 1GB PCI-X 2.0 video card, and Xion 1000W power supply. The only thing I want to overclock is my Ram. Does anyone know the BIOS layout of my gigabyte mobo to know what settings I need to overclock my Ram for stable settings?

Well, I would first reccomend getting a good foundation in overclocking, and doing a bit of research before you try to push something too far.

Here's a link that will help get you started from the ground up:

http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...ing-guide.html

As for clocking RAM.....eh, that's ifffy. Each set of RAM and each mobo are different as to what they will allow. I would say just start slowly tweakin the timings and voltage till you get a stable OC that makes you happy.

The reason that I want to overclock my Ram is that I been having

problems with programs lagging big time when starting up and while

running. When I use Process Explorer, the CPU usage in Hardware

Interrupts is way too much when some programs are trying to run.

So I believe that raising the FSB on my Ram would help out. If

not, someone let me know what else could be causing this.

yeh i am quite familiar with gigabyte motherboards

all you have to do first is update to teh latest bios, after that go to the M.I.T. settings in you bios and try changing the Dram ratio, gigabyte is very limited on that so it might only give you multiplyers to lowe the frequency, if so

you will have to reduce your cpu multiplier, and overclock the fsb to put you cpu back on 3ghz

and them change the DRAM multiplyers so you can get higher ram clocks

i dont see why you would want to overclock your ram , it wong make much of a diference unless you overclock the cpu,

at the moment with 4gb and at 1066, your ram are not bottlenecking you cpu at all

i just remembered, check on you ram what voltage they are rated for, probably 2.1, if so
go to the bios and chech the voltage settings for you ram
is its set to auto that means they are only getting 1.8V so increase the ram voltage acordingly so tehy get the rated voltage ( I.E. if tehy are rated for 2.1 you have to increase +0.3V)

also check you memory timings on cpu-z and see if they match what your ram are rated for , again if not go to the bios and check your ram setting and set them manually acordingly

as for the lagging whyle runing programs i am 1000% sure its not your ram, a bios update might fix it i had same issue with my p35 ds4 mobo from Ggbyte

check your cpu temps and if you are using vista disable indexing features

see if that helps

monitor a little of your cpu usage and see what is keeping it under load them lets us know
