Default Asus M2n-plus vista edition ram voltage mod

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the custom computer scene and I got 4 gigs of ram in my pc running vista ultimate x64, but I kept getting blue screen errors pointing to memory faults, so I figured it was faulty ram. I emailed OCZ and asked what was up and they said to verify that my ram was set to recieve 2.1 volts of power, but my board only supports up to 1.95.

Is there any way at all to modify the max volts that my mobo can give to the ram? Secondly, if I need new, ram, how do i tell if it needs more than 1.95 volts?

thanks a lot.

Welcome to OverClock.net
please fill out your system specs
http://www.overclock.net/specs.php?do=addsystem
then hit save, it will appear below your signature
you will need to buy RAM that is set to that voltage, its not good to lower it manually, you may damage your RAM/Motherboard so buy RAM that is set to a voltage supported by your Motherboard

Honestly, I'm surprised they said that you had to be at 2.1v for their stuff, if you go to their forums their support staff typically rails against people defaulting to 2.1v for stock settings. 2.1v (and 2.2v EVP) are supposed to be their highest rated supported voltage. The DDR2 spec reference voltage (1.8v) should be more than adequate, you just have to set your timings yourself...

Try these timings out...
5-4-4-18 @ T2 @ tRFC=54 @ 1.8v

ugh....i was worried this was going cost more money..... what would be the best route? new ram or mobo...cause the ram in here is bloody good and I wouldnt want to swap it out for inferior models.

and as for trying out those timings..... thats gonna need a walkthrough, I dont want to bork anything by playing about in my bios.

Let me know what part of that you need a walk through with and I'll see what I can do... if you're not familiar with the nomenclature, here's a really quick explanation...

Wikipedia's Explaination of Basic Ram Timings

In this case the timings I suggested would be...

5 - CAS Latency
4 - tRCD
4 - tRP
18 - tRAS

...and then, typically under the "advanced" RAM settings, change the tRFC = 54 and the Clock Timing to 2T (or just 2). Finally, you'll go into the voltages section and change the DDR2/RAM voltage to 1.8000v .

-----------

If you can find me a link of your boards "virtual bios" or a "bios template" I can show ou where to make those setting changes.

no worries, I take it that Corsair memory is on your motherboard's QVL (quality vendor list)? :ducks:
