I've got a few artists to add to the list, but they're a little iffy on how close to ambient they really are. The one I know I can list as ambient without question is Aphex Twin.. Two albums dedicated to ambient music (Selected Ambient Works Vol. 1 & 2).

These others may be a little hit or miss due to them being multigenre. Regardless, they may be worth a shot to some:

The Birthday Massacre (Synthrock band with female vocals and high ambient tendancies.. Check out "Red Stars" "Black" and "Video Kid".. for the nerd in all of us .)
Conjure One (Ambient/"Chillout")
Orbital ("Ambient Techno"/Electronica)
The Crystal Method (Breakbeat/Dance.. probably the most oddball here, but two of their albums give me that "ambient high" that others do. Check out the cds "Vegas" and "London Original Soundtrack".. the OST was scored by them and is excellent)
