Default Tool and why I love them....

Im up tonight and Ive been listening to Tool like normal. I have been a fan for a very long time. Before I could really comprehend how deep and intelligent they were. In 1993 I was given a tape recording of Undertow. Ive never looked back.

I notice there are a lot of Tool fans here on OCN and wanted to dedicate a thread to them. Post your thoughts, rants, stories, artwork. Also it'd be really neat if everyone could post a video of their favorite song, or performance. That would really show others whom arent aware or just didnt know much about them, how great they are.

Please I urge everyone not to get into a religious debate. There are some out there who perceive Tool or the opposite a certain way, I do not want this to turn into what typically can result.

Here are 2 videos I've come across on Youtube that are just really well thought out and put together, and might give you a glimpse on the depth of thinking that goes into every lyric, measure, and beat.

46 & 2 and Lateralus are a couple of my favorites.. There are too many to list and type, thats what this thread is for...

This is artwork by Alex Grey. He can be seen in Tool's Album covers, and on stage consistently.

Adam Jones is the guitarist for Tool and he actually quit his very well paying day job to come to Tool. What was it? He was a designer for models used in the movies such as Jurassic Park and many more. Here's a great interview with the Band, in 3 parts.

Awesome thread. I first heard their album Aenima back in 96 or so, and like the OP haven't looked back. This is the band that I always come back to and never really get bored with. I can find something new to like about any particular song that I didn't notice before almost every time.

My favorite right now is Right in Two, and especially these two verses.

Quote:
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
over pieces of the ground.
Silly monkeys,
give them thumbs they make a club
and beat their brother down.

How they survive so misguided is a mystery.
Repugnant is a creature who would squander the ability
to lift an eye to heaven,
conscious of his fleeting time here.
I think the first verse is pretty self-explanatory, and the second always makes me think. I'm not religious, but that second verse always catches my attention for some reason.

Edit: I hope they release at least one more album and go on tour again. I haven't seen them live yet, but I would really like to, I've heard they're amazing live.

I firmly believe they will be releasing at least one more album and they are playing a few festivals this year. Thats all that has been confirmed, and I just hope that a Tour doesnt stay a rumor for this year.

IMO, The point is not necessarily that you need to understand a lot of the deeper meaning in their songs, but rather just be able to enjoy it on any level and maybe something in the future will trigger an understanding from one of their songs in the past.

I know it has for me!

Here is a really great example of Maynards amazing range! This is one of the best Tool songs and it was from the album Undertow. This is actually one of the only few videos that were professionally shot by a camera crew. They have yet to ever release a live DVD, and because the experience is really only best seen first person, they will probably always keep it that way until they no longer are touring ever again. This is not what you would see today from them. This is just a simple gig at a festival. Their tours are incredibly designed and are full of digital imagery and some of the best visual effects youll ever see.

LOL, I used to love that video and watch it all the time, never really seemed to get old. I love his dance at the end. Maynard's a strange dude.

Daily Update:

This is "Jambi" from the album 10,000 Days. Another poetic epic written by Maynard. Magnificent song!!
